How to Make Big Black Braided Headband🖤 2 Layers - Chiffon & Linen | DIY Hair Accessory

In this tutorial, I'd love to share with you guys how to make a trendy and stylish braided headband with two layers, which is perfect for any length of hair. This is the ultimate accessory for those who appreciate elegance and minimalism. What are you waiting for? Let’s begin!

If you want to take a closer look, here is my tutorial video. Have fun watching!

Tools and materials

  • Black plastic headband

  • Chiffon for the outer layer

  • Linen for the inner layer

  • Pencil

  • Polyester Fiber

  • Scissors

  • Sewing machine

Now, without further ado, let's begin with me!

1. Prepare the chiffon pieces

Cut the chiffon into 3 pieces. The first one is 67cm x 9cm. The other two are 52cm x 9cm each.

Next, fold these pieces in half lengthwise with the right side facing inwards.

This is when you need the sewing machine! Use it to sew the longer edge of each chiffon piece closed.

Next, thread a pen (or a random long stick) through the pieces of fabric to turn them right side out.

2. Join the pieces together

Fold the 52cm x 9cm chiffon pieces’ edges inside, just as shown. Don't fold the 67cm x 9cm piece yet.

Hold the two folded 52cm x 9cm pieces together with the 67cm x 9cm in the back, just like this. Pin them with a straight pin.

Sew the edge of the longer piece and the joint part using the sewing machine.

Fold the extra part of the longer piece in and sew along the edges. Remember to cut the excess threads.

This is our combined pieces of chiffon.

Before moving to the next step, grab its end and stick to the plastic headband.

3. The inner layer

Now, it’s time to move on to the inner layer. Cut 3 pieces out of the linen fabric, 48cm x 7cm each.

Fold it in half and stitch its edge using the sewing machine. After that, you will have 3 pieces that look like this:

Turn the pieces inside out by threading a pen through the fabrics. In other words, repeat the same technique as you’ve done with the chiffon.

4. Fill the polyester fiber

Now, stuff the polyester fiberfill to the linen tubes. This will give them a soft and puffy look. Don’t forget to stitch the edges once you've done stuffing so the fiberfill doesn't fall out.

Afterwards, put the stuffed pieces into the chiffon ones.

The longer tube is used to cover the base headband. The result will look like this.

5. Styling

Now, this is the interesting part. Braid the tubes just as you do with your hair.

Remember to leave a gap and stitch its edge to make it more secure. This should be your outcome.

Fold the excess part in half and stitch along the edge.

Cut a strip of fabric, fold it around the headband and apply glue along the way to attach them together.

Next, insert your plastic headband into the encasing.

6. Sewing time

Sew the bottom of the braided part to the fabric around the plastic headband to keep it secured.

Next, insert the other end of the plastic headband into the encasing.

7. Finish the headband

Fold the extra fabric on its ends and manually sew accordingly.

Make sure you cut the excess threads to give it a perfect and spotless look.

That was How to Make a 2-layer Braided Headband
